Device comparison study

Thrive 2: A comparative study of the cardiovascular effects of Intermittent Pneumatic Compression devices and the geko™ neuromuscular electrostimulation device in hip and knee replacement patients.

A multi-centre study comparing the geko™ neuromuscular electrostimulation (NMES) device to standard Intermittent pneumatic compression devices is underway. Twenty patients undergoing pre-operative assessment for knee and hip arthroplasty will be asked to participate voluntarily within each centre.

They will wear a compression device as per the hospital's standard protocol and then wear the geko™ device. Doppler ultrasound assessment will be used to compare the effects of the devices on venous circulation.

The results of these studies are to published at a later date and will also appear here.
